During the pandemic, online sales of footwear shot up as many people started shopping online. Despite this, over the forecast period, retail offline sales are expected to grow with new physical store developments, concepts and innovations expected to draw shoppers back into store-based retailers.
Both international and local players are investing in researching, developing and introducing new footwear featuring new innovations to better serve consumers. For instance, focusing on the growing demand for multifunctional footwear, Crocs launched its Crocs All-Terrain Atlas range which claims to provide comfort while being suitable for all outdoor activities while still maintaining a chic street-style fashion.
As in many industries, sustainability concerns are likely to have a growing influence on the production and sale of footwear over the forecast period with players likely to look to clearly communicate any positive moves that they make. For example, the “Teva Forever” campaign from Teva is a recycling programme which is encouraging consumers to recycle their old Teva sandals into new ones (by donating a pair of old shoes shoppers can receive a THB500 discount on a new pair of Teva).
